Vivien Mousdell

My background is as a site specific sculptor with public commissions throughout the North of England. I continue to work in response to people & place in my current practice that integrates installation & performance.

Originally I trained as a ceramist & stone carver so bring a craftsman’s skill & love of materials & process to the range of my work whether durable or ephemeral.

Preferring to work across creative boundaries & uniting my interest in movement with that of sculpture I studied with the London School of Puppetry to become a professional puppeteer.

As a Northern Arts Fellow with Welfare State International I began to develop site sensitive performance & subsequently received an Arts Council research & development award to explore the interface between installation & animation ‘Puppets in Place’

Several artist’s residencies in different contexts have extended the depth & scope of my work. Most recently I developed an ambitious three dimensional video & sound installation ‘Waves’ for the the Centre for Performance Research.
